Carly's First Treatment

She's a trooper! Carly had her first pulse-dye laser treatment for her port-wine stain birthmark. We took her up to Doernbechers last weekend for the first of several treatments. She had to fast for 12 hours (which turned out to be more like 14.5!) They gave her a "cocktail" to ease her transition to the OR. She drank it up fine and soon thereafter couldn't walk or sit up by herself. She was happy though! We walked back with her to the OR doors and handed her off to the anesthesiologist. (spelling?) She came back pretty soon. Like 30 minutes maybe? They brought her back looking pretty banged up with tubes still coming out of her mouth. As her oxygen levels dipped, the nursed put on a mask and gave her extra oxygen. After a while it was off and she was waking up. I've never seen her so mad. Thrashing, back bends, loud crying... And she still wasn't opening her eyes. She had Vaseline slathered all over her face. The nurse told me to keep her head back so she could breathe..... It was a little stressful. She was starving too. The nurse gave her a bottle of formula (which she had tried before but hated) and she DOWNED the whole thing in no time. We left the hospital an hour later. Fast forward to now Back to normal. Keeping the vaseline on her face to keep it soft and supple per Dr.'s orders. Her eyebrow was singed pretty good. We were told that the treatments would make her looked "bruised", but we think they're more like hiccies. Slowly fading. Still has the biggest, most beautiful brown eyes ever! And we'll do it all again in April! And June, August, October and probably December! Nolan and Tatum were taken care of by Danny's mom Pam. She flew up from AZ. It was a mini vacation for them! They went to the zoo and museum and toy store... They were just amazed at the tall buildings. It was cute to see them so wide-eyed at the big city! Thanks Pam!!! You're awesome! And yep, we did valet this time!!!!
